The Rick Hansen Institute recently held a staff engagement event to build awareness and funds in support of the work being done to find a cure for paralysis after spinal cord injury. By participating in the campaign, staff at RHI demonstrated their belief and passion for the work of the Institute and the progress being made in SCI research and care.
From September 29th to October 14th, RHI staff embarked on a special campaign to encourage family and friends to support the incredible work of RHI. Staff were divided into teams and encouraged to participate in friendly competition to see who could raise the most money. Many teams were creative in their fundraising endeavours which included bake sales, silent auctions and 50/50 raffle draws.
The two week campaign culminated in a scavenger hunt that took teams throughout the Broadway corridor in Vancouver to solve and collect their answers. At the end of the scavenger hunt, staff were treated to a fun-filled gathering at the Broadway & Ash Cactus Club Cafe to enjoy great food and great company.
During this inaugural campaign, RHI’s staff of 48 employees – with the help of family and friends – raised a phenomenal $11,495. Funds raised will go towards RHI’s translational research, best practice implementation and registry initiatives.
At a glance, RHI is a unique collaboration of individuals across the SCI field dedicated to accelerating the pace of translating research findings into practical solutions and finding a cure for paralysis after spinal cord injury. RHI brings together Canada’s best and brightest scientists, surgeons and rehabilitation practitioners to explore promising new therapies and treatments through clinical trials.
