Translational research projects are carefully selected through strategic investment or calls for proposals, based on their potential impact against our six primary objectives. In particular, in concert with Health Canada (our primary funder), we have identified three key themes to guide the Rick Hansen Institute translational research investment:
Potential projects are identified through several routes. Where expertise in our priorities areas is known, our Translational Research Program Director, the Research Management Team (RMT), and associated Leadership teams comprised of subject matter experts in all segments along the continuum of care may receive information and invite proposals. As a group, our RMT ensures alignment with Network priorities prior to proceeding with an identified project. Those recommendations are made to the Rick Hansen Institute CEO via theTranslational Research Program Director who Chairs the RMT. Our independent Research Advisory Committee (RAC) may be asked to assist with assessing the scientific rigor and translational potential of projects. All projects selected for funding are forwarded to the Rick Hansen Institute CEO for final approval.
