The Rick Hansen Institute strongly supports research initiatives across Canada in order to maximize quality of life and minimize disabiliity for people living with SCI. We are pleased to share the results of SCI research supported by the Rick Hansen Institute. SCIRE 2SCIRE is the acronym for Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Evidence. The completion of the original SCIRE version in 2006 was a remarkable achievement. For the first time, a vast quantity of knowledge specific to SCI rehabilitation from around the globe was evaluated and, on the basis of its credibility, synthesized into a single document. The result is a resource that clearly identifies best practices in SCI rehabilitation. SCIRE Version 2 builds on this success, with the 22 original chapters updated, and new chapters on assistive technology, aging with SCI, and physical activity. As well, the chapter on community reintegration has been greatly expanded and enhanced to include successful strategies employed around the world. Future plans for SCIRE include the addition of results from a Acute Care and Treatment systemic review, which is currently being carried out by researchers working within the Rick Hansen Institute.
